The Committee meets four times annually to develop recommendations for the Secretaries of Health and Human Services and the Labor and Workforce Agencies. Recommendations to the Secretaries provide coordination strategies and strategies to increase the rate of employment for people with disabilities. With a variety of representation, the Committee provides a forum for state departments, business community and others to develop better state program coordination for people with disabilities.

In Fiscal Year 2016-2017, the Committee is aligning its state mandates with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and the goals and objectives of California’s Unified State Plan. Beginning in 2017, the CCEPD will begin to engage the communities at a regional and local level to assist with policy recommendations at the state level.

In 2015, Members participated in the Joint Project with the California Department of Human Resources, the California State Personnel Board and the Department of Rehabilitation. The Joint Project evaluated civil service policies and procedures, resulting in a set of proposed recommendations to improve the hiring, retention and recruitment for people with disabilities in state’s civil service. As one of its mandates, the Committee will have ongoing discussions for updates on implementation efforts.
