    "People with disabilities will be prepared to maximize their self-sufficiency by integrating into the mainstream of a California labor market that is accessible to the diversity of its workers, job seekers, and business and microenterprise owners."

    "California commits to achieving an employment rate for people with disabilities that is in parity with that of the general population by:

    • Removing barriers to work; and,

    • Providing needed services, supports and incentives to maximize individual economic growth and development."

2015 JOINT PROJECT

In 2015, Members of the CCEPD participated in evaluating California's civil service policies and procedures, in collaboration with the California Department of Human Resources, the California State Personnel Board and the Department of Rehabilitation, aimed at improving the hiring and retention of people with disabilities. The Joint Project (PDF) consisted of four workgroups that worked on the following areas:

  • Disability Survey Re-engineer

  • Hiring, Promotion and Retention

  • Information Technology

  • Reasonable Accommodation

Currently, the three Departments have been implementing several of the recommendations made in the Joint Project. The CCEPD will have ongoing discussion on implementation efforts of the Joint Project.

CCEPD 2013-14 RECOMMENDATIONS

In 2013 and 2014, the CCEPD developed a series of policy recommendations aimed at increasing the employment rate of Californians with Disabilities. "Operation California First: Recommendations to Advance Employment Outcomes for Californians with Disabilities (PDF)" is a comprehensive report of all the recommendations that were sent to the Secretaries. Many of the recommendations were sector strategies.

PRIOR ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMITTEE

In its Committee history, the CCEPD also worked on several initiatives to assist with better business engagement, understanding benefits planning and working with students with disabilities in self-advocacy and employment.
