Creating Accessible Forms in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF

Class Description:

This class will cover the basic steps in the creation of accessible forms in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF. Some pros and cons of each format will be discussed. Content creators will learn how to fix common errors from the accessibility report in Adobe PDF. We will highlight the importance of using assistive technologies and human testing in accessibility checks. All too often form authors rely solely on software tools to check for accessibility resulting in forms that have significant problems with both accessibility and usability for persons who utilize assistive technologies.

Prerequisites

Principles of Accessible Documents is a prerequisite for the accessible forms training.

Objectives:

As a result of attending this class, participants will be able to:

  • Create accessible electronic forms using Microsoft Word 2010, Excel 2010, and Adobe Acrobat X Pro

  • Identify and repair accessibility errors in Adobe PDF

  • Understand how assistive technologies navigate forms

Intended Audience

This class is recommended for anyone who is responsible for creating forms. This class is not intended for new Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro users. The information taught in this class is specific to the accessibility features within the software.
