DOR To Serve As Lead Coordinator of Federal PROMISE Grant

The State of California was recently awarded the Promoting the Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (PROMISE) grant. This initiative to improve coordination of services for families of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients aged 14 to 16 will begin October 1.

Services provided under the PROMISE grant will help provide successful outcomes for SSI recipients, including:

  • graduating from high school ready for college and career

  • completing postsecondary education and job training

  • obtaining competitive employment in an integrated setting

The goal of the PROMISE grant is to reduce long-term reliance on SSI.

The full annual award of $10 million federal funds has no state match requirement.
