In partnership with several other State Departments, local educational agencies (LEAs), and San Diego State University's Interwork Institute, DOR is working to improve the coordination of services and supports to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients ages 14-16 and their families who are on a list provided by the Social Security Administration.
The purpose of California's Promoting the Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (CaPROMISE) effort is to increase independence by promoting completion of high school, and entrance into higher education and employment. The long term goal is increased self-sufficiency and decreased reliance on public benefits.
The CaPROMISE works through partnerships with LEAs who are the primary provider of outreach, recruitment and interventions with the youth and their families. Recruitment, intake, and interventions are conducted on an individualized basis in the CaPROMISE catchment areas.
