Reporting Wages to Social Security Administration (SSA)

Social Security requires individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) to report their wages every month. Timely reporting helps prevent overpayments, underpayments, or interruptions in benefits. Staying on top of wage reporting doesn’t have to be stressful. With several simple reporting options available, you can choose the method that works best for you while keeping your benefits accurate and secure.

Ways to Report Your Wages:

  • Mobile App (SSI only): The SSI Mobile Wage Reporting App allows recipients to report their total monthly gross wages directly from a mobile device.

    • Available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
    • Designed specifically for SSI recipients.

  • Telephone Reporting: Choose one of the three phone reporting options.

    • Automated Wage Reporting Line: 866 772 0953
    • National SSA Office: 800 772 1213
    • Your local Social Security office

  • Online Wage Reporting: Wages can be reported through your my Social Security online account.

    • Available at: www.ssa.gov
    • Recipients, representative payees, and deemors can report wages online.

  • Fax to Your Local SSA Office:

    • Include -
    • Name
      Social Securty Number
      Address
      Phone Number
Type of Benefit received (SSI, SSDI, or both)

  • Mail to Your Local SSA Office: Include the same information required for fax submissions.

  • In Person Reporting: You may also report wages at your local Social Security office.

Important Notes:

  • Phone reporting and the mobile SSI wage app allow only one active employer per wage earner.

  • If reporting online and an employer is missing from your account, contact your local SSA office to add it. Online reporting does allow reporting wages from multiple employers.

  • Always report wages by the 6th of each month to avoid SSI or SSDI overpayments or underpayments.

  • Make copies of your paystubs; do not send originals.
