YLF - Future Delegates
Your leadership journey starts here. We can't wait to see what you'll accomplish.
You're a Delegate - What does that mean?
If you're selected for YLF, you'll notice we don't call you a camper or just a delegate. We call you a delegate.
Why? Because you're here for a reason.
As a YLF delegate, you'll represent your community, your experiences, and your unique perspective. You'll learn from other delegates, share your ideas, and discover new ways to lead and advocate for yourself and others.
Don't worry—you don't need to have all the answers or be an experienced leader. Every delegate starts somewhere. All you need is an open mind, a willingness to participate, and a desire to grow.
By the end of YLF, you'll leave with new skills, new friendships, and the confidence to continue making a difference in your school, workplace, and community.
Welcome to the YLF delegation—we're excited to have you.
What is YLF really like?
Imagine spending time surrounded by other young people with disabilities who understand your experiences, cheer you on, and challenge you to dream bigger. That's YLF.
Whether you're already a leader or just beginning to find your voice, YLF is a place to build confidence, learn new skills, make lifelong friends, and discover what's possible for your future.
What you'll do
- Participate in interactive leadership workshops
- Meet successful adults with disabilities who share their journeys
- Connect with college, career, and community resources
- Learn self-advocacy and independent living skills
- Work with peer mentors who have been where you are
- Have fun through games, team challenges, and social activities
- Build friendships with youth from across California
What you'll learn
By the end of YLF, you'll have the opportunities to:
- Build confidence in yourself and your abilities.
- Practice speaking up for what you need and want.
- Learn about disability history, culture, and pride.
- Explore education, career, and independent living options.
- Discover your unique leadership style.
- Create a plan for your future.
What to expect?
Many delegates arrive feeling nervous—and that's completely normal.
You'll be welcomed by a supportive team of staff, peer mentors, and fellow delegates who want you to succeed. Every activity is designed to help you feel included, respected, and encouraged to be yourself. There are no grades or tests—just opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun.
Accessibility comes first
YLF is committed to creating an accessible experience for everyone. We provide reasonable accommodations so delegates can fully engage in every activity. Our goal is to remove barriers so you can focus on learning, connecting, and enjoying the experience.
Be yourself
There isn't one "right" kind of leader.
Some leaders are outgoing. Others lead by listening, creating, organizing, or encouraging others. At YLF, you'll discover that leadership looks different for everyone—and that's something to celebrate.
You'll leave with more than memories
Many delegates leave YLF with:
- New friends from across California
- Greater confidence
- Leadership and self-advocacy skills
- Professional mentors
- Resources for college, careers, and independent living
- A growing statewide alumni network
